Bank of Australia news

The cost of using AI will rise in less predictable ways as companies deploy the technology for complex ‌tasks, the head of Australia's biggest bank said on Tuesday, calling ‌the expense a key emerging management challenge. Commonwealth Bank of Australia CEO Matt Comyn said businesses globally are likely to tighten scrutiny of artificial intelligence-related spending through 2026 as adoption accelerates and pressure mounts to demonstrate returns on investment. His remarks highlight a growing constraint on AI rollouts in corporate Australia, alongside managing workforce disruption and the heavy ‌energy and water demands of the data centres powering the surge in computing.

Earlier this month, Commonwealth Bank of Australia appointed Professor Mary-Anne Williams as its first Chief AI Scientist and completed a HK$615 million fixed-rate Euro MTN bond issue maturing in May 2026. The creation of a Chief AI Scientist role, alongside large-scale AI deployment and investment, signals a deepening commitment to technology-led transformation across the bank. We’ll now examine how appointing a Chief AI Scientist and accelerating AI deployment could influence Commonwealth...

Sam Altman of OpenAI has been one of the loudest voices warning that AI is a job killer. Has he changed his mind?

Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CMWAY) might move higher on growing optimism about its earnings prospects, which is reflected by its upgrade to a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said on Tuesday the rapid development and adoption of AI would not lead to a global "jobs apocalypse" and the technology had not claimed as many ‌white-collar jobs as he had feared. Speaking virtually at a Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) conference in Sydney, Altman ‌said he was initially concerned about the impact AI would have on global employment levels. He said he and his executives had been "roughly right" on the technological predictions made by OpenAI when it launched ChatGPT in 2022.

As the Australian market grapples with global uncertainties and fluctuating commodity prices, investors are increasingly seeking stability amidst the volatility. In such an environment, dividend stocks can offer a reliable income stream, making them an attractive option for those looking to balance their portfolios while navigating current market conditions.

Commonwealth Bank of Australia on Monday appointed Mary-Anne Williams as ‌its chief AI scientist in what the ‌bank said would be the first such role at an Australian lender. Williams would join from the University of New South Wales, where she serves as the deputy director of the varsity's AI ‌Institute, among other roles. CBA did not say when Williams would join.

Investing.com -- Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers strongly defended the federal government’s proposed overhauling of national capital gains tax laws on Sunday, framing the policy intervention as an absolute necessity to repair what he characterized as a broken domestic housing market.

In early May 2026, Fidelity National Information Services reported first‑quarter revenue of US$3.30 billion and net income of US$2.37 billion, while also unveiling major wins in AI, digital assets, and large-scale cloud-based platforms with clients such as Glencore and Commonwealth Bank of Australia. These developments highlight FIS’s push to become core infrastructure for banks’ AI, reconciliation, and digital money initiatives, potentially deepening client dependence on its platforms...

Investors may be wondering whether Commonwealth Bank of Australia at around A$174 per share still offers value, or if most of the opportunity is already priced in. The stock is up 1.0% over the past week, down 5.1% over the last 30 days, up 8.0% year to date and has returned 7.1% over the past year, which provides a mixed picture of recent sentiment and risk. These moves sit against a backdrop where investors are watching large Australian banks closely and paying attention to how capital...
